A great week

I have had a great week back here in Gusau.

Mon - Did not start so well, and was frustrating. I travelled two hours with lots of shoes and sunglasses, but no patients had come. Not sure if this was due to the rain overnight or they had not been informed.

However, as we filled with petrol, we found two ladies with deformities from leprosy needing shoes; so I was able to supply them with some of our new style shoes with bright red straps.

Tues - I travelled 2½ hours to a village, needing a 4-wheel drive Toyota to be able to cross rivers and drive through the mud. I found lots of people affected by leprosy, and gave out shoes to those with insensitive feet, and sunglasses for those with lagophalmus. I had been there once before to talk about self care and set up two self care groups. It was encouraging to see the improvement in their skin condition over the last month.

Wed - I saw four self care ladies' groups in Gusau doing well. Tried to get them more organized with attendance registers and encouraging leaders in the group to not have ulcers.

Thurs - I saw seven disabled children with a catholic sister. They had all improved so much in the four months since I had seen them, and their parents so proud of the progress of the children, having done the simple exercises I had given them. It was a real joy, that visit.

Today is a catch up day, buying and fixing new tyres to the car, and writing up a six month report.

Thank you again for your support and prayers.
